Paddleboarding in Netherlands: Self-Service SUP Experience

I’ve always loved the Netherlands for its unique charm, but one of my favorite things about this country is how accessible a variety of activities are, especially water sports. Among these, stand-up paddleboarding in Netherlands has become a new obsession for me. And today, I’m excited to share my unforgettable experience with SUP SUP Club, a self-service SUP rental in Holland that makes getting out on the water incredibly easy!

The Netherlands: A Water Wonderland
The Netherlands is dotted with picturesque canals and serene lakes, and it’s not uncommon to spot people gliding across the water on SUP boards. When I saw people paddleboarding or swimming in the canals, I thought, ‘The water doesn’t look that clean—how can they be sure it’s safe?’ Later, I found out that there’s actually a few websites where you can check the water quality in certain areas. They thought everything!
While you can always bring your own board to paddle board in Netherlands, I didn’t have one on hand. So, I had to get a bit creative—which, in the Netherlands, is surprisingly simple compared to where I’m from. This turned into one of the best experiences I’ve had here.
Finding the Perfect SUP Spot in the Netherlands
It was a beautiful day, the kind of day that makes you want to be outside. Since the weather needs to be just right for SUP (you really can’t go when it’s too cold, it is not allowed), I decided to look for nearby rental spots. A quick search on Google Maps with “SUP” as the keyword, and voilà—I found a spot right in my neighborhood. Paddleboarding in Netherlands is as easy!
SUP SUP Club caught my eye. After some research, I discovered it’s a self-service SUP rental service with locations all over the country. I was staying in Rotterdam, so I chose the closest spot: right next to the cozy Bergsche Plas Restaurant.

Seamless Online Reservation
Booking a board was way easier than I imagined. No app downloads or extra steps—just head to their website, make a reservation, and you’re set! Here’s how I did it:
First, I logged into the site. If it’s your first time, you’ll need to sign up, but the process is quick. Next, I picked my location and date, selected the number of boards and the time I wanted. Once I clicked “Book now,” I was taken to the payment page, paid with my card, and instantly received a confirmation email.
It all took just a few minutes, and I was excited to get out on the water!
The Easy Check-In Process
After booking, we hopped on our bikes and cycled over to the location. The check-in process was just as straightforward as the reservation. I logged into my account, found my booking, and clicked “Check-in.” Just like magic, the door of my locker opened automatically! You can open the locker door 5 minutes before the start time.

They’ve really thought of everything: inside the locker was all the SUP gear I needed, and even a waterproof phone case—perfect for capturing photos on the water. (You’ll need your phone to open the locker as well.)They also had an instructional video on the locker, showing the basics of SUP.

Paddleboarding here was truly enjoyable. We had a wonderful time paddling in an incredibly peaceful and serene environment. The location was so beautiful, nestled among lush, tree-covered forests. At the edge of the lake, people were lounging on sunbeds, enjoying the calm and peaceful atmosphere. It wasn’t too crowded, which made the experience even more fun.

After finishing, we returned the board to the locker and closed the door. Simple as that! Just make sure to be on time when you return, or you might be charged an extra hour. Plus, if you are late, you might not be able to open your locker. Just keep in mind.
We had come in our swimsuits, which made things very convenient. I didn’t see any changing cabins here, but it might be possible to change in the restaurant’s restroom; I’m not sure.

By the way, we had a small issue with the cabinet door opening. Since there was no one on site to speak to, we felt a bit uneasy, but when we reached them by phone, they resolved our problem immediately. They were helpful and we were definitely very satisfied.
Nature at Its Finest
This particular location was absolutely stunning. Nestled in what felt like a forest or natural park, it was peaceful and perfect for a day of paddling.
After our SUP session, we grabbed a bite at the Bergsche Plas Restaurant, which I highly recommend. The food was delicious, and it was the perfect way to end the day.

Final Thoughts
All in all, my experience with SUP SUP Club was incredible and paddleboarding in Netherlands was fun. The self-service system is convenient, easy to navigate, and made for a perfect day out in nature. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, I can’t recommend this enough.
