Many people think that it’s quite troublesome to cook while camping. When it comes to vegan camping food, it is believed that this effort increases exponentially. However, many meals from our country’s cuisine are actually vegan. Apart from these, although it is not very common in our country yet, vegan food options are quite high. In this post, I wanted to give you information about vegan camping food that you can easily prepare in the camps.
Vegan Camping Food
Oatmeal with Fruits
Oatmeal is one of my favorite meals. You can have a practical, light, and satisfying breakfast with this magnificent thing that you can prepare in about 3-4 minutes. The ingredients that we need for this:
- Oat
- Water or plant-based milk
- Banana
- Any other fruits you want (I usually prefer peach, strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, or apple depending on the season)
- The nuts you want (I usually prefer almond, nut, walnut)
- Flax seeds and chia seeds if you want to sprinkle on top
There is no measure for this recipe. Put as many oats as you want in the pot. Then add water as much as one-third of the oats by the rule of thumb, and cook by stirring the oat until it boils down. In the meantime, add the banana slices to the same pot and crush them well. When the oats start to look like mush, remove them from heat. You can add other fruits and nuts. Sometimes I prefer adding cinnamon because I think it flavors the porridge. So, you can prepare your fruit oatmeal in 10 minutes.
Vegan Omelet
I would like to briefly explain how you can make a vegan omelet, that is omelet without eggs. In fact, the name of a vegan omelet is due to its similarity in appearance and the fact that it is offered as an alternative to an egg omelet. It is needless to say that it does not contain eggs. If you haven’t tried vegan omelets before, definitely give this nice meal a chance. It is a very satisfying and protein-rich food that you can prepare in 15 minutes with various vegetables and chickpea flour. Ingredients to prepare vegan omelet:
- A mixture of vegetables and greens you want as much as a bowl. I usually prefer to use parsley, fresh green onion or onion, tomatoes, red and green peppers. I’ve also tried it with grated zucchini and grated carrots before. All kinds of them are delicious. If it is tough to chop these vegetables at the campsite, you can also use them by chopping home and transferring them to a food storage container.
- As much chickpea flour as it takes
- Drinking water
- 1 teaspoon of flax seeds and 1 teaspoon of chia seeds. (These ingredients are not mandatory. These are both used as binding and rich in protein and various minerals and vitamins.)
- Salt
We mix all the ingredients and get a mixture of slightly beaten egg-like. We cook both sides of the mixture in the already greased pan. If you’re going to add flax seeds and chia seeds, it would be better if you soak them with very little water previously.
Vegan Sujuk Sausage in Bread and Vegan Hot Dogs
Well, we’re here for camp classics now. I have to admit that vegan sausage and sujuk are not camp classics. But sujuk and sausage can be considered a breakfast classic in general. Since I’m vegan, I don’t consume animal sausages and sujuk. Instead, I prefer to consume plant-based ones.
In fact, I don’t eat these things in every camp because the prices of these products are not very cheap in Turkey and I wouldn’t say I like to consume packaged products anyway. But once in a while, I buy and consume them especially when I want to prepare an effortless breakfast. If we have friends who are vegan like me or vegetarian, I wanted to share them to guide them.
Vegan Pancake
Pancake is one of the meals that is often referred to with eggs and milk. But eggs and milk are not indispensable. You can even make more delicious and lighter pancakes by removing these from the recipe. Here are our ingredients for a vegan pancake that you can prepare in a short time and enjoy with pleasure:
Ingredients:
- ½ cup flour
- As much water as it takes
- 1 tablespoon of molasses
- 1 teaspoon of olive oil
- You can add ½ teaspoon baking powder (I do not add it as I do not bother carrying it)
- You can also add mashed bananas if you like.
We mix these ingredients, cook them in an oil-free pan, and enjoy it with pleasure. About five or six pancakes come out of this recipe. You can consume by adding tahini, molasses, and jam to pancakes if you want.
Buckwheat Rice and Salad
Buckwheat is one of the grains with a very high protein content, which can be boiled in a short time and gives a feeling of satiety. When you boil it for about 10 minutes, it will soften immediately, thereby you can consume it as a salad by adding greens that you want or as a bowl of rice without adding greens.
At this point, let me add that the taste of buckwheat alone is not a very preferred taste. I tried various sauces and flavors such as apple, pomegranate, and onion in the buckwheat salads I’ve made so far, and I was able to make the taste of buckwheat very nice. Please keep in mind that.
Vegetable Noodles and Pasta
Have you ever tried pasta, which is one of the indispensable food of the camps, with vegetables? In fact, vegetables are more suitable for noodles which may be preferred as they cook faster than pasta, but pasta with vegetables isn’t bad at all. You can boil the chopped vegetables with the pasta, or you can add the vegetables to the pasta after searing them together with the onion. It becomes extremely delicious when various spices are added.
Fine Bulgur Salad
You may not know what exactly I call the fine bulgur salad. We know its form with tomato paste as Turkish “Kisir”, but this time we’re going to eat this without tomato paste. Of course, those who wish can add tomato paste, but there is no tomato paste in this fine bulgur salad.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup fine bulgur
- Water
- Greens
- Lemon
- Olive oil
On half a glass of fine bulgur, pour hot water that is one finger above the bulgur. After the bulgur swells, add all greens and mix it well. I usually use greens such as lettuce, fresh green onion, parsley, arugula, and green sorrel. Add lemon and olive oil and then eat it.
By the way, I prefer to prepare the greens at home and take it with me as it is difficult to clean and chop the greens at the campsite. If there are things at home like chickpeas, black beans, and boiled lentils that you’ve already prepared, you can add them to this salad and enjoy it.
Mushroom Sauté
The mushroom, which is one of the indispensable ingredients for vegans and vegetarians, is surely essential to the list of vegan camping food, too. Mushroom sauté, which is very easy to cook, is also easy to prepare for the cook.
Ingredients:
- Mushroom
- Onion
- Tomato
- Green pepper
- Salt
We chop all the ingredients. First, we add the onions and pepper, then the tomatoes, and finally the mushrooms one by one. After we cook it, we eat it with pleasure. That’s it! You don’t need anything more than a delicious and satisfying meal that you can prepare in just 15 minutes.
Vegan Kokorec
Kokorec is one of the most famous foods in Turkey. Vegan Kokorec may not sound practical at first, but trust me, please. You can prepare this recipe in as little as 20 minutes and enjoy it. Let’s start with the list of ingredients, and then we’ll talk about the details of the recipe.
Ingredients:
- Tomatoes
- Green pepper
- Cumin, chili pepper flakes, thyme, and salt (These are extremely important since they are the main things that give the taste of Kokorec)
- Pea protein, soy mince, or oyster mushroom
- Bread according to preference
First, start cooking the chopped peppers, and then add the tomatoes. When they both are about to cook, add pea protein, soy mince, or mushroom. Before removing it from heat, add spices. Finally, you can eat with pleasure.
You can make this recipe with pea protein, soy mince, or oyster mushrooms according to your please. If you want to make it with oyster mushrooms, it will make it easier to do the mushroom cleaning at home. If you make it with pea protein and soy mince, remember soaking them in hot water for 10 minutes before mixing them with others. The first time I tried this, I used pea protein and the taste was also extremely delicious. I have also tried it with mushrooms, it was also good.
Vegan Meatballs
It’s hard to believe, but there’s such a thing as vegan meatballs! I’m sure you’ll be surprised when you find out the number of meatballs you can prepare with vegetables. For example, I recently made a very delicious meatball from green beans. I can’t give you all the meatball recipes here for now. I’ll write the most practical vegan meatball recipes as I try. But by then, when you look at the search engines, you’ll see a lot of vegan meatball recipes. Of course, it can be hard to prepare them at the campsite. So you can choose to prepare it at home and take it ready to cook at the campsite.
In addition to this, you can also buy different types of vegan meatballs from stores. Vegan meatballs are one of the most practical vegan camping food
